At Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis (PSG), we understand breast augmentation is a personal decision that can significantly impact your self-image and confidence. Our board-certified plastic surgeons bring extensive experience in advanced breast augmentation techniques, including sub-muscular, dual plane, and sub-fascial placements. We offer personalized care and tailor each procedure to meet your unique goals and body type.

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman's breasts using implants. At PSG, we offer various implant types, including "gummy bear" implants known for their natural feel and shape retention.
This procedure can address breast volume loss due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, as well as naturally small breasts or asymmetry. Implants can be used to balance different-sized breasts and augment breast tissue development. Breast implants are made of a silicone shell filled with either saline or silicone gel. Your surgeon will help you decide which implant is best for you. Breast implants do not last forever, but most women will keep the same set of implants. Some women will benefit from a breast lift (mastopexy) to reshape the breasts in conjunction with breast enlargement. Recovery usually takes 1-2 weeks.

On the day of your surgery, our experienced surgeons will begin by carefully placing incisions based on your anatomy and chosen implant type. Some women may further benefit from insertion of absorbable mesh to support and stabilize the implant position. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Our rapid recovery breast augmentation protocol aims to minimize downtime and discomfort.
We offer several placement options, including:
This technique involves placing the implant entirely beneath the pectoralis major muscle. It provides excellent coverage, especially for women with minimal breast tissue, and can create a very natural look. This placement may also reduce the risk of capsular contracture and interfere less with mammograms. However, it may involve a slightly longer recovery time and sometimes cause more discomfort during the healing process. In some women, the breasts may move with flexing of the pectoralis muscle as a result of the implant being positioned under the muscle.
This method places the implant partially under the pectoralis major muscle. The upper part of the implant is covered by muscle, while the lower part is not. This technique combines the benefits of both sub-muscular and sub-glandular placements. It can provide a natural look with good upper pole coverage while allowing the implant to settle more naturally. This approach can be particularly beneficial for women with some breast sagging.
This placement involves positioning the implant over the pectoralis major muscle but under the fascia (a thin layer of connective tissue covering the muscle). It will usually result in less postoperative pain and faster recovery compared to sub-muscular placement while offering some benefits of muscle coverage. As the fascia is tightly attached to the muscle, there is less chance of the implant migrating beyond the space that was created during surgery.

During your consultation at PSG, our board-certified surgeons will evaluate your health history, active lifestyle, and aesthetic goals to determine if breast augmentation is right for you.
Recovery from breast augmentation is typically straightforward, especially with our rapid recovery protocol. Most patients can return to light activities within a few days and resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks. You may experience some swelling and discomfort initially, which can be managed with prescribed medication. We recommend wearing a supportive bra and avoiding strenuous activities for several weeks. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions and support throughout your recovery process.
You'll notice an immediate change in your breast size after surgery, but final results become apparent as swelling subsides over the following months. Most Memphis Breast Augmentation patients see their final results within 3-6 months. While breast implants are not lifetime devices, most women keep their initial set of implants. Some women may benefit from revision surgery as they age or with weight fluctuations. Regular follow-ups with our team will help ensure the longevity of your results.
Many women can breastfeed after augmentation, especially with specific implant placements. Discuss your plans with your surgeon during your consultation.
While implants can make mammograms more challenging, special techniques can still provide accurate screenings. Inform your mammogram technician about your implants.
Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water during surgery, while silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. Each has its own benefits, which we'll discuss during your consultation.
You will have the opportunity to try on sizers to help you choose your implant size.
