Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) may be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive reasons. Large breasts may make it difficult to find clothing that fits and may be out of proportion to the rest of a woman’s body.
In some circumstances, insurance companies may cover the cost of a breast reduction provided their requirements are met. During the surgery, skin and breast tissue are removed creating a smaller lighter-weight breast.
The nipple is usually left attached to the underlying breast tissue preserving sensation. The areola is made smaller and the breast is lifted. Breast reduction recovery usually takes about 1-2 weeks. Many women are able to successfully breastfeed after reduction mammoplasty.

One month postoperative she developed an infection in the right breast. This was treated in the office by incision and drainage, along with oral antibiotics.
